The Role of Parties’ Youth Wings Regarding Engagement of Youth in the Political Life of Ukraine

The purpose of this research paper is to analyze the participation of young people in the political life of independent Ukraine and the role of the youth wings of political parties in activating young voters. This analytical study also examines the organizational structure of youth wings, interaction between political parties and young voters, as well as the decline in interest towards political processes in youth. Recommendations for the further improvement of the current state of affairs are also part of this paper. Publication is available in Ukrainian and English languages.

Gender Equality Assessment Among the Political Parties of Georgia

The Gender Equality Ranking of Political Parties of Georgia produces its assessment in three dimensions – Electoral, Institutional and Programmatic. Each of these dimensions consists of a set of indicators to which pre-determined weights are assigned and the resulting aggregate can be used to create a common index of gender equality in the political parties. The first ranking of gender equality among the political parties of Georgia was produced in 2014. This is the third ranking and it covers the year of 2017.

Money and Politics: Legislative, Institutional and Cultural Factors of Political Competition

The influence of money in politics represents one of the most debated issues in democracy assistance communities and between politicians. While essential for political competition, the growth of the role of political funding in electoral processes is creating, in the eyes of many observers, serious challenges to democratic process. This paper focuses on Eastern Europe and the EU’s Eastern neighborhood, but some of the ideas and problems discussed here may be applicable elsewhere. It addresses some of the regulatory, institutional and cultural aspects of political financing and discusses potential reforms and necessary paradigm shifts that will be helpful in reinvigorating and strengthening democratic institutions.
