Regional Political Dialogue

Regional Political Dialogue

Regional cooperation has been a cornerstone of EECMD’s work, dedicated to strengthening trust, facilitating dialogue and collaboration among democratic actors across the South Caucasus and Ukraine.

Between 2013 and 2017, EECMD (then operating as the regional office of NIMD) supported initiatives that brought together young political leaders to foster confidence-building and democratic development in a complex regional context. These efforts emphasized the importance of ongoing dialogue, experience sharing, and mutual support among emerging leaders.

A key component of this work was the Forum of Young Politicians of the South Caucasus and Ukraine, organised annually in partnership with the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly. The forum combined capacity-building with high-level diplomatic dialogue, including conferences held in the Parliament of Georgia with the participation of European political leaders.

Our Approach

EECMD’s regional dialogue initiatives focused on:

  • Strengthening policy expertise and dialogue skills among young political leaders
  • Creating sustainable platforms for regular interaction and exchange on critical issues of regional importance
  • Encouraging cooperation and trust across political and conflict-affected landscapes
  • Supporting transnational networking and long-term engagement among participants

Impact

Through a strategic combination of training, dialogue, and networking activities, EECMD contributed to building lasting connections among young leaders across the region.

These initiatives were instrumental in reducing isolation between communities, fostering a culture of dialogue, and supporting the emergence of a new generation of democratic leaders committed to cooperation and regional stability.

Why It Matters

In a rapidly shifting geopolitical environment, strong regional cooperation remains essential. EECMD’s work has demonstrated the value of sustained dialogue and collaboration in strengthening democratic resilience and promoting long-term peace.
