Democracy Education
Democracy Education Programme
EECMD’s Democracy Education Programme is a core pillar of the organisation’s work, focused on strengthening democratic culture by investing in people.
The programme equips a diverse spectrum of actors from political parties, civil society, media, and public institutions with the knowledge, skills, and values required for active democratic life. By bringing together diverse actors, it fosters a shared understanding of democracy and encourages constructive engagement across political and societal divides.
EECMD believes that sustainable democratic development depends on informed, capable, and engaged citizens who are empowered to demand and contribute to accountable and inclusive governance.
What We Do
The programme supports democratic engagement through:
- Civic and democracy education on governance, political systems, and civic participation
- Leadership and Capacity Building for emerging and mid-level political and civic actors
- Multisectoral Platforms for dialogue, exchange, and cooperation
- Opportunities for Networking and Peer Learning
Our Approach
At the heart of our methodology are Democracy Schools, intensive, structured and multi-month learning processes that integrate theoretical knowledge, practical application, and deliberative dialogue.
These programmes go beyond conventional training. They create inclusive spaces where participants from different backgrounds can exchange perspectives, challenge ideas, and build trust-based relationships. This immersive approach is vital for promoting pluralism and nurturing a sustainable culture of democratic participation.
EECMD combines local knowledge with regional experience to deliver context-sensitive programmes that respond to the needs of each country while maintaining a consistent focus on inclusion, participation, and democratic values.
Long-Term Impact
The programme places strong emphasis on sustainability and long-term engagement. Graduates become part of an active alumni network that continues to contribute to civic initiatives, public dialogue, and influence democratic processes.
Through follow-up support, including small grants, joint initiatives, and exchange opportunities, EECMD enables alumni to apply their knowledge and drive change within their respective communities.
Where We Work
The Democracy Education Programme is implemented in Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova, in partnership with local stakeholders and institutions.
Why It Matters
By strengthening the capacity of individuals and fostering dialogue across society, the programme contributes to more resilient, inclusive, and participatory democracies.
