Democracy Festival

DemFest is a signature EECMD initiative designed to decentralize democratic discourse and bring it directly to the people. By transforming public spaces into dynamic platforms, the festival integrates political debate, civic activism, and cultural programming into a single, cohesive experience.
Inspired by the Danish Folkemødet (People’s Festival) model, this public-facing format breaks down traditional barriers between citizens, political actors, entrepreneurs, and international partners. It fosters a unique environment for the informal exchange of ideas and the collaborative exploration of policy approaches. By bridging these divides, DemFest actively cultivates a national culture of pluralism, transparency, and cross-sector cooperation.

DemFest in Georgia
In 2024, DemFest Georgia traveled across the country through a series of vibrant regional mini-festivals held in Telavi, Tsalenjikha, and Kutaisi, bringing democratic dialogue and civic engagement directly to local communities.
The events brought together political parties, civil society, public institutions, entrepreneurs and international partners, creating open and inclusive spaces for dialogue at the local level. By decentralizing the event, DemFest ensured that citizens in regional areas had direct access to political discourse and could engage meaningfully with political actors.
Through discussions, public activities, and cultural events, participants had the opportunity to exchange ideas, explore key political issues, and connect in a more informal and accessible setting.

DemFest in Moldova
In Moldova, DemFest takes place in Chișinău as a large public event that brings together citizens, political actors, and civil society in an open and interactive environment.
Starting from 2025, the festival is organized on an annual basis, creating a regular platform for dialogue, participation, and collaboration. The event promotes democratic engagement, encourages inclusive participation, and supports constructive exchange across different groups in society. Through a mix of discussions, civic activities, and cultural elements, DemFest Moldova presents democracy as a dynamic and participatory process.
