EECMD’s Gori Democracy School has joined the environmental campaign of CENN – ‘Keep Georgia Beautiful’. The Keep Georgia Beautiful campaign calls for private companies, non-governmental and governmental organizations, local residents, and other stakeholders to help develop a responsible attitude and to implement green activities in everyday life in society. This large-scale environmental campaign is initiated within the Waste Management Technologies in Regions, Phase II (WMTR II) program, which is funded by USAID.
On June 15, the alumni and attendees of Gori Democracy School cleaned the forest territory near the village of Uplistsikhe. A banner placed at the entrance of the forest lets the people know that EECMD is taking care of that part of the forest. It is worth mentioning that this activity will have a continuous character and with the joint efforts of the DS alumni, we will ensure to turn this place into a recreation center.
Not only the DS alumni, but also the State Representative-Governor in Shida Kartli region, Mr. Giorgi Khojevanishvili had participated in the clean-up campaign himself. During the discussion with the governor, it was highlighted that the forest has all the resources needed to be turned into a recreation center. Furthermore, it can attract tourists and investors, and develop the region as an important tourist destination.
CENN and EECMD will continue to jointly organize various educational and awareness increasing activities.
The attached photos below will let you evaluate the purposefulness of the campaign. It will also demonstrate how joint efforts can change our environment for the better.
